A Surprise Vow Renewal at Noosa Botanical Gardens

A love story 25 years in the making
There’s something truly magical about vow renewals. They’re not about starting over; they’re about continuing. They’re a quiet, powerful celebration of everything you’ve already built together: the laughter, the challenges, the ordinary Tuesday mornings, and the wild adventures that make up a lifetime of love.
This particular vow renewal will always hold a special place in my heart because it was for my own mum and dad.
To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Dad planned the entire thing as a complete surprise. Mum had absolutely no idea. He even brought her back to the same place where they said “I do” all those years ago: the Noosa Botanical Gardens on the Sunshine Coast.
The very same spot. The same view over the lake. Just a few more wrinkles, a few more laughs, and a lot more love.

The Sweetest Surprise
When I say Mum didn’t know, I mean she really didn’t know. Dad had gone full secret-agent mode. My sisters and I were the behind-the-scenes crew, setting up florals, arranging decorations, and trying not to cry as we watched it all come together. (Okay, they helped… but let’s be honest, eldest sibling vibes mean I definitely did most of the work 😅)
When Mum arrived and realised what was happening, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. She was absolutely stunned, and the moment they looked at each other, it felt like time paused. Twenty-five years of marriage, parenthood, and partnership reflected right there in their smiles.
These are the moments I live for: the real, raw, candid emotions that tell a story without needing any direction.
Why Vow Renewals Are So Special
Vow renewals, much like elopements, are incredibly personal. There’s no pressure, no timeline, no “shoulds” or “musts.” It’s just about you and your person, reaffirming what you already know in your hearts.
They’re not about fixing something. They’re about celebrating the life you’ve already built together and taking a quiet moment to say,
“Hey, we’ve done this thing. We’ve built a life. And I’d still choose you, every single time.”
Whether it’s five years, twenty-five, or fifty, a vow renewal is a chance to pause, reflect, and fall in love all over again.

Capturing Love, Years Later
Photographing vow renewals feels a little different. They’re softer, more nostalgic, and full of depth. It’s love that has stood the test of time, captured through a documentary and editorial lens that focuses on emotion rather than perfection.
At Shae Imagery, I approach vow renewals the same way I do elopements and weddings: with storytelling, warmth, and a touch of cinematic flair. From the quiet glances to the uncontrollable laughter, every frame is about connection.
If you’re planning a vow renewal on the Sunshine Coast, whether it’s a secret surprise like my dad’s or a planned family celebration, I’d be honoured to capture it.
Because love doesn’t stop at “I do.” Sometimes, the most beautiful moments come long after.
