Planning a wedding at Maroon Hill Estate? Here’s exactly what your wedding day could look like, from getting ready on-site through to sunset portraits, cocktail hour overlooking Mount Maroon, and dancing under the fairy lights.
As a Scenic Rim wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to photograph weddings at some incredible venues across South East Queensland, but there are always a few venues that sit on the wish list for a little while.
For me, Maroon Hill Estate was one of those venues.
Located just outside Boonah in the heart of the Scenic Rim, this hilltop wedding venue has been on my list for quite some time. So when Abby and Liam’s enquiry came through about a year before their wedding, I was absolutely stoked to finally have the chance to photograph a wedding here.
And honestly, it did not disappoint.
With sweeping views over Mount Maroon, beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, on-site accommodation, and endless photography opportunities, it’s easy to see why Maroon Hill Estate has quickly become such a popular Scenic Rim wedding venue.
Their wedding was an intimate celebration with fewer than 40 guests, but one of the things I love about this property is that it works beautifully for both smaller weddings and larger celebrations. With spacious indoor and outdoor areas, the venue can comfortably host up to 150 guests without ever feeling cramped.
Everyone still gets to enjoy those incredible mountain views, whether they’re sitting down for dinner, enjoying cocktail hour, or dancing the night away.
Getting Ready On Site at Maroon Hill Estate
One of the biggest advantages of Maroon Hill Estate is the option for on-site accommodation.
With four bedrooms, a kitchen, and a lounge room, your wedding party and immediate family can stay right on the property and enjoy a much slower, more relaxed morning.
From a photography perspective, this makes such a difference.
Rather than spending valuable time travelling between separate locations, both partners can get ready in the same place, allowing more time for those little moments that happen before the ceremony.
The nervous excitement.
The final touches.
The champagne with your closest people.
The quiet moments before everything begins.
Having everyone together on-site means your wedding day timeline can flow naturally, without feeling like you’re constantly watching the clock.
A Ceremony Location With One of the Best Views in the Scenic Rim
One thing you quickly notice when you arrive at Maroon Hill Estate is that every direction offers another incredible view.
For Abby and Liam, they chose to say their “I dos” at the far end of the property, overlooking Mount Maroon.
And honestly, it’s hard to imagine a more beautiful ceremony backdrop.
The outdoor ceremony space offers those incredible uninterrupted mountain views while still being surrounded by plenty of trees to provide shade and comfort for guests.
Their ceremony was held in mid-April at 4:00pm, and the lighting was absolutely perfect.
The softer afternoon light, comfortable temperatures, and that beautiful glow beginning to settle over the mountains created the dreamiest atmosphere.
After exchanging vows, they celebrated with dried flowers as confetti before moving into family photos and cocktail hour.

A Real Maroon Hill Estate Wedding Timeline
One of the questions I get asked all the time is:
“How many hours of photography do we actually need?”
For Abby and Liam’s wedding, we had six hours of continuous photography coverage, and it was the perfect amount of time to capture the story of their day without feeling rushed.
Of course, every wedding timeline is different depending on your plans, but this gives you a realistic idea of what a six-hour wedding photography package at Maroon Hill Estate can look like.
Time Coverage
1:50pm Photography coverage begins at the bridal suite
2:00pm Venue details and styling photos
2:15pm Groom getting ready and portraits
2:50pm Bride getting ready and portraits
3:30pm Guests arrive and final ceremony preparations
4:00pm Ceremony
4:20pm Ceremony concludes
4:30pm Family photos
4:40pm Couple portraits before joining cocktail hour
5:30pm Reception begins
8:00pm Photography coverage finishes

As you can see throughout the photos in this blog, six hours was more than enough time to capture all the important moments of their wedding day.
We captured the excitement and anticipation while getting ready, their ceremony overlooking Mount Maroon, family photos with their favourite people, couple portraits around the property, sunset moments, and the key reception events.
Some couples love having photography coverage from the moment they wake up until the dance floor opens, while others prefer a shorter collection focused on the biggest moments of the day.
For Abby and Liam, six hours suited their wedding perfectly and allowed us to tell the complete story of their celebration.

Cocktail Hour With Mountain Views
the best view in SEQ
This quickly became one of my favourite spaces at Maroon Hill Estate.
While guests enjoyed drinks and canapés overlooking Mount Maroon, Abby and Liam were able to spend some quiet moments together capturing portraits nearby without ever feeling like they were missing their celebration.
Carousel Events co. had their portable bar set up for guests, which was such a fun addition and an absolute hit throughout the afternoon.
There really is nothing better than watching the sunset behind you while the mountains slowly change from golden hour into those soft blue hour tones.
I’ve also seen this space transformed later in the evening into an outdoor dance floor under festoon lighting, and I can only imagine how magical that would be.
Endless Photography Locations Around Maroon Hill Estate
One of my favourite things about photographing weddings at Maroon Hill Estate is how much variety you can capture without ever leaving the property.
Rather than every portrait looking like it was taken in the same location, the venue naturally offers so many different backdrops.
Some of my favourite spots include:
The ceremony lawn overlooking Mount Maroon
The expansive hilltop lawns for family and bridal party photos
The venue’s beautiful modern architecture
The swing perched beneath a stunning tree overlooking the valley
The surrounding paddocks (we unfortunately didn’t quite make it there due to a few timeline delays, but they’re absolutely on my list for next time)
The swing is honestly such a gorgeous little feature. Sitting beneath the tree with those valley views behind you, especially as the afternoon sun starts to set, creates such a beautiful and romantic moment.
Because everything is within easy walking distance, we could move between locations quickly without spending half the afternoon travelling.
That means more time celebrating with your guests and less time away from your wedding.
A Reception Space You Can Truly Make Your Own
The reception space at Maroon Hill Estate is essentially a blank canvas ready for you to bring your vision to life.
Whether you’re dreaming of elegant florals, long banquet tables, statement styling, or something beautifully simple, the space can be transformed to suit your wedding style.
Abby and Liam chose a more minimal and intimate setup.
Flowers were draped from the ceiling, fairy lights created a warm atmosphere, and their sweetheart table sat alongside four guest tables with plenty of room left for an open dance floor.
It felt intimate without feeling empty.
As the night continued, everyone naturally gathered around the dance floor and celebrated together.
One detail I loved about this venue is that your wedding coordinator remains on-site until the final guest leaves.
Of course, guests staying in the allocated accommodation can continue enjoying the property overnight, but having someone there throughout the evening gives couples peace of mind knowing there is always someone available if anything needs attention.
It means you can stop worrying about the little details and simply enjoy your wedding day.

Is Maroon Hill Estate Worth Considering For Your Wedding?

Absolutely!
If you’re looking for a Scenic Rim wedding venue that combines incredible mountain views, on-site accommodation, flexible reception styling, and endless photography opportunities, Maroon Hill Estate deserves a spot on your list.
Whether you’re planning an intimate celebration like Abby and Liam or a larger wedding with up to 150 guests, the property has such a relaxed and welcoming feel.
As a photographer, it’s one of those venues where the day naturally flows.
You’re not spending your entire afternoon travelling between locations. There’s beautiful light everywhere you look. And every wedding gallery ends up with so much variety because the property offers so many different spaces to explore.
It’s easy to see why couples searching for a Boonah wedding venue or Scenic Rim wedding location are falling in love with Maroon Hill Estate.
